PRIMARY LEARNING THROUGH LANGUAGES, GEOGRAPHY AND MATH
As
I have already said in my earlier posts, when a child is born, he commences learning
languages from his mother and other people who live in his surroundings interact
with him. Languages may be verbal and non verbal. Here I would like to say that
the child starts learning even before his birth when he is in the womb of her
mother.
The
child starts understanding various types of feelings and sentiments. He uses
his senses to understand the things which happen in surroundings. One thing
which is quite clear is that the child presumes that every thing starts and
ends in the womb of his mother. It is the primary geographic area for him.
Because his eyes normally remain close, he uses his presumptions regarding
sounds he hears. However, this is a matter of intense research.
When
child comes out in this word after birth then he slowly starts identifying the
things. Suddenly his eyes open and he tries to assimilate and synthesize about
the things in his mind. He identifies his mother, room, things kept in the room
and toys. A feeling of affinity starts creating in his mind. This is the second
step of understanding geography. Then child starts seeing things of this
physical word. His senses starts developing and memory starts preserving the
pictures and ideas of things.
Here,
two things go on simultaneously. These are learning of languages and
identifying things and places which may also call geography. The child
interacts as per his convenience.
Here,
one thing is interesting that the learning and interacting power of all kids
are different. It has been found that parents of child, who interact with him
actively and in a pleasant manner, he becomes more and more intelligent.
However, his actions are unbound which are later on slowly restricted by the
parents, elders, teachers and society. If restrictions are proportionately
large, then it is feared that personality of child may suppress. On the other
hand if no restrictions are put on him then he may become undisciplined.
Now,
come back to the point. Here we are concerned about increasing intelligence of
a child so that he may grasp maximum things and later on when he faces various
types of competitions in life, he may be able to face them with courage and
challenge. Therefore, in early school days, the children should be taught
Geography simultaneous with Languages and Math. History and Economics should
not be taught to him in his early school days.
Learning
of geography begins from the room and home of a child. Placement of things in
his room and home, location of houses and localities in his town and village is
geography. This increases further by understanding geography of his District,
state, country, word and universe. At this stages map reading should be told to
the child.
When
a child or a student commences clearly creating an idea about the particular
area, then afterwards, he may easily understand the things and incidents
occurring or occurred in that area. Nowadays many geographic TV channels are
available and they depicts the things in an interesting manner. If a child see
these programmes, his knowledge will definitely increase.
But
apathy is that mostly, schools and teachers start teaching History like
Paleolithic age, Neolithic age, Indus valley
civilization, History of ancient period, middle period etc in early school hood
days. Out of fear, compulsions of many other factors, the child becomes a
parrot. He memorizes material of text books by cramming (Ratta). By this, the
logical power of child can never be enhanced. On the other hand, if a child has
physical ideas of areas and things, he may understand the happening relating to
these areas easily and may synthesize thoughts about particular areas. By this
creativity begins in the mind of a child. By cramming, no creativity evolves
and no development of ideas take place in the mind. Three dimensional ideas
start cropping in the mind of a child.
(The
teachers, the students ,parents and viewer of this post pay interact on the ideas depicted in this
post. Welcome to their reactions.)
